The inspiration for this painting was learning about the new verses the old lighthouses. Although the New Point Loma lighthouse was first lighted in 1891 replacing the Old Point Loma Lighthouse which sits atop the 400 foot cliffs of Point Loma. The old lighthouse was often obscured by fog which was the reason for building the new lighthouse as it was only 88 feet above sea level. Although the old lighthouse is the famous lighthouse that visitors and tourist most often visit.
