This painting's inspiration came from our visit to Naples, Italy where we stayed across from the Castel dell'Ovo on the Naples coast. The castle was an imposing sight. The oldest standing fortification in the city. This was built by the Normans in the 12th century. The stone walls give one the sense of history it has seen from being a grand Roman villa, to a royal residence to housing a prison. This painting is of the early morning sunrise as the distant mountains created a magical moment. I hope I captured some of that feeling.
