Description
The inspiration for this painting was from cruises to Alaska visiting the glaciers of Prince William Sound and Kenai Fjords. Glacier calving is one of the most dramatic Alaskan experiences in all of nature. Witnessing a tidewater glacier as it unleashes house-sized blocks of ice into the ocean creating enormous splashes resulting in icebergs that can create enormous waves. If you view this event from the air you lose the perspective that one experiences from the water. It was my hope to capture that water experience in this painting. The Kenai Fjords are hundreds of feet high and extend for miles. This painting is that dramatic moment when without fanfare a section of the glacier joins the sea with a big splash
